IKA
killi.net

Killifish are small highly colored tropical fish found in all ares of the world except Australia and the Antarctic. Their bright colors, small size and undemanding nature have given them a devoted, almost fanatical following among aquarium hobbyists world wide.

Killi.net is used by national organizations and individuals as network infrastructure, many killi clubs and killi hobbyists are hosted here or get DNS from heres.

Killies are extremely undemanding and can be kept in a variety of containers; they thrive in small tanks and even a corner of a small apartment can hold a rack of small tanks.

They prefer live food, but then what tropical fish doesn't? They will however do perfectly well when fed frozen or prepared food. This section explores the various options and includes many recipes for growing your own live food.

BREEDING

They have some of the most fascinating life cycles of any animals. Many of them live in temporary pools and streams and will deposit their eggs in the mud. The water will dry up and the eggs remain dormant buried deep below the ground. When the rains come next season, which may be many months, a new generation magically appears, seemingly from out of nowhere.

Not all killies do this, and others deposit eggs on plants, which hatch in week or so. In both cases the eggs are amazingly tough and are commonly sent via postal service all over the world.

ARTICLES

Various articles about killies can be found here. The way information is laid out here is as follows: if you need general information about the care and keeping of killifish you can hopefully find it from the top level menu. Various other articles can be found in this category.

LINKS

More information can be found on other sites. This is a relatively new feature here because originally when this site came up there were no other killifish sites. Now there's lots and you'll find links to them here.

From none in 1960 to one in 1961 there are now a few dozen killifish specialty associations and a half dozen or more national associations. Somewhere around your fifth and sixth pair of killies you'll be hooking up with these people. Here's how to find them.

SHOWS

2011

Most national killifish clubs have a show once a year where fish are judged. In nearly all cases these fish are then sold at auction on the following day.
